Legal Counseling "Suluh Praja" at Karangwuni Village: Understanding Land Rights and Land Dispute Resolution

Kulon Progo, September 11, 2024 - On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the Faculty of Law UGM, through the Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH), in collaboration with the DIY High Prosecutor's Office, successfully conducted the "Suluh Praja" legal counseling event at the Karangwuni Village Office, Wates District, Kulon Progo Regency, DIY. The purpose of this legal counseling was to provide legal insights and knowledge to the attendees, including village officials and local residents, about common legal issues related to land. Thus, this Suluh Praja session focused on "Land Rights and Land Disputes" to offer legal understanding on land-related topics and their legal aspects.

The event began at 09:45 AM with a joint rendition of the Indonesian National Anthem. This was followed by opening remarks from Karangwuni Village Head, Mr. Anwar Musadad. The DIY High Prosecutor's Office team, represented by Mr. Slamet Siswanta, S.H., M.H., provided an introduction and presentation on the roles, duties, and functions of the Indonesian Public Prosecutor's Office in civil and state administrative matters.

The legal counseling materials were presented by two lecturers from the Faculty of Law UGM: Mr. Prof. Dr. Tata Wijayanta, S.H., M.Hum., an expert in civil procedure law who covered land disputes, and Mr. Rafael Edy Bosko, S.H., M.I.L., who discussed land rights applicable in Indonesia. Both lecturers actively engaged in discussions and answered questions from the village officials during the Q&A session.

The presentations from the lecturers were delivered in an interactive and engaging format, facilitating effective discussions. The lecturers also provided clear and practical answers to participants' questions.

This legal counseling is expected to contribute to the proper use of land according to its designation, thereby promoting a well-organized environment in line with SDG Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and fostering peace, justice, and strong institutions as outlined in SDG Goal 16, through the collaborative efforts involved in this legal counseling.
