The Mariano Marcos State University College of Law, located in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, visited Gadjah Mada University on Wednesday (2/2/2024). The delegation was led by Josiah Patrick Bagayas, Head of the Center for Legal Aid and Advocacy. The purpose of this visit to UGM was to hold discussions with UGM’s Center for Legal Consultation and Assistance regarding the establishment of a new Center for Legal Aid and Advocacy, which was founded in January 2024.
Josiah Patrick Bagayas stated that the visit by the Mariano Marcos State University College of Law to UGM was prompted by survey results indicating a high number of housing and debt cases in the Philippines. This exploration of cooperation is one form of the University’s support in assisting the community. It also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which pertains to peace, justice, and strong institutions, as well as SDG 17, which focuses on partnerships to achieve the goals.
The Head of the Center for Legal Aid and Advocacy at the Mariano Marcos State University College of Law and the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Information Systems both hope that this collaboration can continue, particularly in the field of research, given the significant differences in procedural law between Indonesia and the Philippines.
