Muhammad Insan Tarigan, a doctoral student in the Department of Law at the Faculty of Law, UGM, participated in The 9th International Conference on Strategic and Global Studies 2025. The conference was held at Kyushu International University, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan, on July 19–20, 2025. At this academic forum, Insan presented a paper titled “Towards Regional Environmental Law in Asia: Between Political Realities and Ecological Demands”.

This year’s conference successfully brought together 33 guest speakers, including keynote speakers and panelists, and was attended by 42 in-person participants and 59 online participants. The event also involved nearly 13 international institutions. Participants came from various countries, such as China, Turkey, Japan, Kazakhstan, Hungary, and the Netherlands. They consisted of academics, researchers, and practitioners who actively participated in various seminar sessions and scientific discussions.
As one of the conference participants, Muhammad Insan Tarigan highlighted the challenges and urgency of establishing a regional environmental legal framework in Asia capable of bridging political realities with increasingly pressing ecological demands. His ideas are expected to contribute to collective efforts in promoting sustainable development in the region.
These ideas also align with several points in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13: Climate Action—through stronger regional environmental regulations; SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions – by promoting the strengthening of cross-border legal governance; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – by emphasizing the importance of regional and global cooperation in collectively addressing environmental challenges.
