On Saturday (16/07), students from the School of Law, University of Sydney arrived in Yogyakarta. The group of students participated in the South East Asia Winter School program for one week. Since 2011, the Faculty of Law Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM) has collaborated with the School of Law, University of Sydney in organizing the annual program. In addition to attending lectures delivered by FH UGM lecturers, participants of the South East Asia Winter School also visited several state institutions, including the Yogyakarta District Court, Wirogunan Correctional Facility, and the Regional House of Representatives of the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
The program aims to provide participants with an understanding of legal systems in Southeast Asia. During their stay in Indonesia, participants studied the Indonesian legal system. In addition to Indonesia, the participants were also scheduled to visit Malaysia to gain insight into the legal system of the neighboring country. This year, the South East Asia Winter School program was attended by 18 participants. “This year there has been a slight decline in the number of participants. In previous years, the number could reach up to 30 participants,” stated Annisa Syaufika Yustisia Ridwa, S.H., M.H., coordinator of the South East Asia Winter School program, during an interview at the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) office of FH UGM on Friday (22/07).
The lecturer from the Department of Civil Law explained that the program had proceeded smoothly without any significant obstacles. Annisa expressed her hope that the quality of the South East Asia Winter School program would continue to improve. “We hope to attract more participants, ensure the continuity of the program, enrich the course materials, and further enhance the quality of the curriculum,” Annisa added.
