In addition to onlinegambling, hoax is also a problem that needs to be addressed immediately. According to data from KOMINFO covering the period from August 2018 to December 31, 2023, a total of 12,547 hoaxes were identified. These hoaxes are like an iceberg—the more we dig into them, the more we find. This urgency is our shared responsibility to reduce the number of cases by taking preventive measures to protect the nation’s youth from this threat.
To that end, the UGM Faculty of Law Outreach Team held a legal education event titled “Legal Education through a Forum Group Discussion and ARLaw Snakes and Ladders as an Legal Awareness Game on Hoax , Online Scams with Augmented Reality-based" at the Cakra Community Learning Center (PKBM) in Cipaku Village, Purbalingga, on Sunday, September 8, 2024. The target audience for this event was students in the C program at PKBM Cakra.
This event is a collaboration between the UGM Law Faculty Outreach Team, Desamind Indonesia, and the Desamind Research and Training Center . The legal outreach session was attended by the Principal of PKBM Cakra Purbalingga, the UGM Law Faculty Outreach Team, the President Director of Desamind, the DRTC Team from Desamind, Desamind Indonesia, and the Desamind Purbalingga Chapter.
The representatives of Desamind, Luthfi said that these young future generations have a big role in succeeding the Indonesia Emas 2045. Therefore, he hoped that every participants can realize that Online Gambling and Hoax are two biggest threat, especially for the young people. “After this event has finished, our hope that, we can be hand in hand to remind each other, that it is not only our (Desamind) duty, but also our duty as a smart young people.” said Luthfi.
The first speaker, Zaky Badruzzaman, Student from Master of Law Faculty of Law UGM presented a material regarding the danger of Hoax , Online Gambling, and the Legal Implication.
Zaky explained that the first phase of online gambling started from experiment or “free-trial”, that can trigger curiosity from the first win. This phase then continued with the active involvement where the frequency of playing will be increased and start abandoning the risk. If this we ignore this, it can cause an addiction (losing control and becoming excessive). This chronic addiction can led to the big amount of losses and impacting the physiological, social, and financial, and will end up with losing hopes in anything.
The second speaker, Wakhidin, S.H., M.H., explained about the Education for Law Number 1 Year 2024 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions. Wakhidin explained that online gambling can cause a significant impact for the user/player. This significant impact can be in a form of addiction, financial losses, the increase of the number of crimes and a serious mental health problem.
The solution that is offered as a preventive measure can be in a form of: 1) Avoid both the website and the application of onlineonline gambling; 2) Avoid the people that are related to the onlineonline gambling; 3) Find another positive activities; and; 4) If there’s a symptoms of addiction to onlinegambling, seek any professional help
In addition to onlinegambling, there were several points that became a highlight in handling the Hoaks, was the penalty or the punishment for the first person who spread the fake news, that has been regulated under the Law No. 1 Year 2024 and depends on the content that they spread:
- If false news contains elements of morality violations, it can be criminally charged under Article 27 paragraph (1);
- If it contains elements of gambling, it can be prosecuted under Article 27 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 45 paragraph (2);
- If it contains accusations that attack someone's honor or good name, it is punishable under Article 27A;
- If it involves extortion and/or threats, it is punishable under Article 27B;
- If it contains threats of violence or intimidation directed at an individual, it is punishable under Article 29.
The next session was moderated by Hardika Dwi Hermawan with the steps on preventing hoax and online gambling with AR Law. LawAR Law itself contained of 2 fun games that can be accessed by the participants. The first AR Law was using the help of Augmented Reality equipments and the second AR Law was using the Snake & Ladder game with involving technologies. The participants were enthusiast while playing those fun games .
The Principal of PKBM Cakra, Fauzan, hoped that this event can be an actual preventive step to eradicate the online gambling and Hoax that occurred within the people, especially to the students from PKBM Cakra that attended this event.
