On Friday (3/6), the Library of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM) organized a Westlaw journal training session. The training, held on the third floor of the FH UGM Library, was conducted directly by Mr. Rob Palumbo. The South East Asia Sales Manager of Thomson Reuters guided the legal journal training for approximately two hours. In addition to delivering presentations, Rob Palumbo also provided participants with the opportunity to ask questions.
The training, entitled “From Westlaw Classic to Westlaw Next,” was the second training session organized by the FH UGM Library that year. Besides Westlaw journal training, the FH UGM Library frequently conducts general journal training sessions. The library also often accommodates training sessions based on students’ requests.
This particular training session was considered special not only because it featured Mr. Rob Palumbo as the speaker, but also because it introduced the new interface of the Westlaw journal platform. According to Ikhwan Arif, S.IP., M.Eng., Head of the FH UGM Library, the current Westlaw interface is more attractive and equipped with more comprehensive yet simpler features, making it easier to use. “This is Westlaw’s update introduced since November last year,” Ikhwan explained.
Westlaw journals were initially subscribed to exclusively by FH UGM beginning in 2006, allowing access only to the academic community of FH UGM. Currently, however, Westlaw can be accessed by all UGM students. “Since 2014, Westlaw has been managed directly by the university,” Ikhwan stated.
Ikhwan further expressed his hope that all members of the FH UGM academic community would maximize the use of Westlaw. “By understanding and utilizing Westlaw, one’s perspective becomes broader, as users gain access not only to Indonesian journals but also to international journals,” Ikhwan added.
