FH UGM Begins Superior Community Service Series in NTT through Collaboration with FH Unwira

East Nusa Tenggara - (Tuesday, 16/09/2025) The Faculty of Law of Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) through the Center for Legal Consultation and Assistance (PKBH) in collaboration with the Faculty of Law, Catholic University of Widya Mandira (FH Unwira) conducted a community service collaboration in East Nusa Tenggara on the first day of the outstanding community service program, which on this occasion was held in East Nusa Tenggara Province in partnership with FH Unwira and Desamind, with support from Sinarmas Mining.

The implementing team from FH UGM consisted of representatives Prof. Dr., Heribertus Jaka Triyana S.H., LL.M., M.A. as Deputy Dean for Research, Community Service, and Information Systems, Dr. Dra. Dani Krisnawati, S.H., M.Hum. as Chair of PKBH and Lecturer at the Department of Criminal Law, Andy Omara S.H., M.Pub&Int.Law., Ph.D, as Lecturer at the Department of Constitutional Law, Almonika Cindy Fatika Sari S.H., M.A. as Lecturer at the Department of Customary Law, and Sahl Radian Setyaki as part-time representative of PKBH.

The first day of the community service program began with a talk show on Radio Tirilolok Swara Verbum and FH Unwira from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. WITA, hosted by Prof. Dr. Heribertus Jaka Triyana S.H., M.A., LL. M., with the topic “Examining Legal Issues at the Indonesian Border” and moderated by Katarina Lamablawa. The broadcast discussed the plans for the UGM Faculty of Law's community service activities in East Nusa Tenggara over the next few days, as well as legal counseling for residents in the border area.

The activity continued at 1:00 p.m. WITA at the Unwira Faculty of Law with an agenda to map out the initiation of a cooperation agreement between the UGM Faculty of Law and the Unwira Faculty of Law, which was attended by the UGM Faculty of Law team and the Unwira Faculty of Law dean, including Finsensius Samara, S.H., M.Hum. as Dean of the Unwira Faculty of Law.

"The Faculty of Law UGM is committed to providing excellent community service, which this year is the main program of the Dean of the Faculty of Law UGM, Mrs. Dahliana Hasan, S.H., M.Tax., Ph.D. as a manifestation of the Tri Dharma of higher education that has a real impact on society, one of which is in the border area of Indonesia by partnering with FH Unwira," said Prof. Heribertus Jaka Triyana. In addition, a comparative study was also conducted between PKBH FH UGM and LKBH FH Unwira to build synergy between institutions.

Furthermore, at 2:00 p.m. WITA, a public lecture was held at the St. Paulus Auditorium of Widya Mandira Catholic University, attended by around 200 students. The public lecture was delivered by three speakers from FH UGM, namely Prof. Dr. Heribertus Jaka Triyana S.H., LL.M., M.A. with a focus on “Human Rights and Cross-Border Issues”, Andy Omara, S.H., M.Pub&Int. Law., Ph.D. with a focus on the topic of “Constitutional Rights of Citizens,” and Almonika Cindy Fatika Sari, S.H., M.A. with the topic “Customs, Identity, and Solidarity: Rereading Borders as Living Spaces.” The public lecture was also attended by P. Dr. Philipus Tule, SVD as the previous Rector of Widya Mandira Catholic University and Finsensius Samara, S.H., M.Hum. as Dean of the Faculty of Law at Unwira. The question and answer session was conducted in a conducive and interactive manner with questions surrounding the topics of Human Rights and Customary Law as well as the challenges of law enforcement in border areas.

The first day of the outstanding community service activity ended with a Knowledge Sharing session by PKBH FH UGM together with LKBH FH Unwira, which took place at 3:00 p.m. WITA at the Rectorate Building of Widya Mandira Catholic University. This Knowledge Sharing session involved Dr. Dra. Dani Krisnawati, S.H., M.Hum as the head of PKBH FH UGM and Dr. Mikael Feka, S.H., M.H. as the head of LKBH FH Unwira, with a focus on discussing the performance and profiles of the units between the two institutions. The discussion in this session covered the institutional work system, the implementation of PKPA, as well as legal assistance and counseling managed by each unit.

This community service initiative is closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the dissemination of legal knowledge in the form of lectures, workshops, and interactive discussions with students and the community. It also contributes to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by strengthening the role of legal education and consultation institutions in upholding justice and human rights, particularly in border areas. Furthermore, the collaboration between FH UGM, FH Unwira, and other stakeholders embodies SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), highlighting the importance of cross-institutional cooperation to achieve meaningful and sustainable impacts.
