The Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM) delegation won top honors in the Contract Drafting Competition at Universitas Padjadjaran, held from 25–27 November 2016 under the theme “Reconstructing Sports Law to Achieve Legal Objectives in Football.” FH UGM won first and second place, as well as the Best Contract award. The competition consisted of two stages: contract selection, which involved 11 teams, followed by a negotiation simulation involving the five teams with the best contracts.
FH UGM sent two teams to the competition. The first team consisted of Alfonsus Bergas P.A., Ian Slyvester C., Samuel Partogi A., Lalu Agung M., Yusuf Muslim P., Abdy Nadhiem A., and Araya Anggara P. The team members, who shared an interest in sports, felt that this year’s theme closely aligned with their interests. They won first place and the Best Contract award.
Alfon, the delegation leader, attributed the team’s success to their willingness to take risks. “Our contract regulated business relationships and league management,” he explained. The team spent three months preparing, conducting research and consultations with the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), the Ministry of Youth and Sports, BOPI, and PT Liga Indonesia. “I personally realized how important sports law is. However, Indonesia does not yet have a specific legal policy governing this area,” Alfon said.
The second team consisted of Nathanael Hasoloan Sinaga, Rimtado Julius C.T., Milana Dwi A., Zahrotun Nisaq, Desy Indrriani G.S., and Jonathan Hendson P. They joined the competition after passing an internal selection held by the Business Law Community (BLC) of FH UGM. The team secured second place with a contract covering the competition system, football season duration, participation, broadcasting rights, and profit-sharing arrangements. “We combined the sporting and business aspects. Our contract also took into account the contributions made by the participating league teams,” Rimtado said. (Hanifah F)
