UGM Law School Offers Free Breakfast During Final Exams: Supporting Student Health, Food Security, and Academic Performance

In an effort to provide concrete support to students during the Final Exam Period (UAS), the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) has launched the Special Free Breakfast program, which runs from Tuesday (June 10, 2025) through Friday (June 20, 2025). This program is designed to help students start their exam days with adequate nutrition, while also creating a more conducive atmosphere for academic focus and stamina.

This initiative is part of the faculty’s commitment to the importance of a balanced diet in supporting students’ academic performance. Especially during exam periods, many students tend to skip breakfast due to stress and busy schedules, even though breakfast is crucial for maintaining energy and mental clarity. By providing free breakfast, the Faculty of Law at UGM aims to ensure that every student has access to healthy food that can support their concentration and stamina throughout the exam period.

Breakfast is served every morning starting at 7:00 a.m. at two convenient locations: the lobby of Building 4 and the lobby of Building B. This program is designed not only to meet students’ daily nutritional needs but also to foster a sense of solidarity and camaraderie among the academic community as they tackle academic challenges together.

More broadly, this initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger, which emphasizes the importance of food security and access to adequate nutrition for all. By providing free nutritious meals, the faculty helps ensure that no student takes an exam on an empty stomach, which could impact their performance and well-being.

In addition, this program also supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, as it is directly related to students’ physical and mental health. Nutritious food plays a vital role in maintaining the immune system, emotional stability, and concentration, especially when students are facing exam stress. This kind of support reflects the institution’s commitment to holistic education—one that prioritizes a balance between academic needs and individual well-being.

The Faculty of Law at UGM aims for this service to reach up to 200 students per day, reflecting a genuine commitment to addressing the needs of the student community. The existence of this program not only helps alleviate students’ burdens but also serves as a reminder that educational success is not determined solely by course materials and exams, but also by a supportive ecosystem that prioritizes the holistic well-being of students. This aligns with FH UGM’s commitment to supporting SDG 4: Quality Education.

Through an inclusive and well-being-oriented approach, the Faculty of Law at UGM demonstrates how educational institutions can serve as agents of change in supporting the right to food and health for the younger generation. This free breakfast program is not merely a logistical initiative, but a tangible symbol of dedication to students and a spirit of academic solidarity that forms the foundation of a healthy and empowered campus life.
