UGM's Faculty of Law Promotes Public Awareness of Women's Protection in Public Spaces

Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M.(HR), Ph.D., a lecturer in the Department of Criminal Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), served as a speaker at the Women Institute Indonesia event themed ah Mada (FH UGM), served as a speaker at the Women's Institute Indonesia event themed "Women's Vulnerability in Public Spaces: Violence and Sexual Harassment from a Gender Perspective".The event took place in the Main Hall of the UGM Campus Mosque and was attended by various academics, students, and civil society groups. Sri Wiyanti's presence emphasized FH UGM's contribution to raising public awareness of gender-based violence and reinforced the university's commitment to building a safe and equal space for all parties.

As a criminal law academic and Head of the Center for Law, Gender, and Society Studies, Sri Wiyanti emphasized the importance of a victim-centered legal perspective and the need for systemic change to address women's vulnerability in public spaces. She also encouraged academic discourse not to remain limited to theory but to be directly connected to policy and community movements. Through its active role, the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), demonstrates its capacity as a scientific center that not only produces research but also contributes to social solutions amidst the challenges of violence and harassment.

This activity also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), which emphasizes protecting women's rights from violence and discrimination; SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) , which champions more equal access to public spaces; and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) , which builds legal systems and institutions that protect vulnerable groups. With Sri Wiyanti's involvement and the full support of the Faculty, this global agenda is being significantly strengthened at the local level through inclusive academic and religious forums.
