On Thursday, March 18, 2021, the Badan Keahlian DPR RI and the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM) held a Focus Group Discussion FGD) as part of the preparation of the Academic Paper and Draft Law on the Reform, Development, and Strengthening of the Financial Sector. The event was conducted virtually via Zoom and livestreamed through the FH UGM Knowledge Channel on YouTube.
The discussion was hosted by Sang Ayu Tamara Viansia P. The event began with welcoming remarks from Prof. Sigit Riyanto, S.H., LL.M., Dean of FH UGM. This was followed by remarks from Dr. Inosentius Samsul, S.H., M.Hum., Head of the Expertise Agency of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, who officially opened the event.
Following the opening session, Taufiq Adiyanto, S.H., LL.M., serving as moderator, led the discussion and invited the first speaker, Dr. Hariyanto, S.H., M.Kn., to deliver his presentation entitled “The Mechanism and Urgency of Reforming Financial System Supervision.” In his presentation, Dr. Hariyanto emphasized the need for the government to formulate appropriate regulations to address various challenges facing the financial sector, particularly amid the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation between the government and financial-sector institutions in implementing economic recovery measures.
The second presentation was delivered by Dr. Veri Antoni, S.H., M.Hum., who provided his analysis and responses to the ten key financial-sector issues outlined in the FGD’s reference framework. His presentation focused on identifying regulatory and institutional challenges that should be addressed through future financial-sector reforms.
The final presentation, entitled “Good Financial Legislation,” was delivered by Dr. Henry Julian Noor, S.H., M.Kn. In his remarks, he discussed the historical development of Indonesia’s financial system, the principles of sound legislative drafting, and various challenges that continue to affect the legislative process in Indonesia.
The FGD then proceeded with an interactive question-and-answer session. Participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm by actively raising questions and sharing their perspectives on the issues presented by the speakers. The discussion provided valuable input for the formulation of the Academic Paper and Draft Law concerning the reform, development, and strengthening of Indonesia’s financial sector.
