Team Mahameru from the UGM Faculty of Law has secured second place at the Selasar Progresif 2024 National Essay Competition. The delegation comprised Arfanita Zaharani (Class of 2022) as Team Leader, Rachel Bintang Patricia Siahaan (Class of 2022), and Intan Ayuningtyas (Class of 2022). The competition was organized by the Research and Academic Affairs Division of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Diponegoro, and was held on September 21, 2024, online via Zoom Meeting. The competition was held under the theme "Accelerating the Transformation toward New and Renewable Energy for National Energy Security and Sustainable Development." It drew participants from universities across Indonesia and was structured in two stages: a document review stage and a final presentation.
In preparing their document, Team Mahameru chose the sub-theme "Readiness and Development of a Legal Framework in Realizing a Sustainable New and Renewable Energy Transition." From this sub-theme, they developed an essay titled "Omnibus Law Lingkungan Hijau (HLH): Reformasi Hukum Atas Percepatan Energi Terbarukan Di Indonesia Dengan Prinsip Evidence-Based Implementation" (Green Environmental Omnibus Law: Legal Reform for Accelerating Renewable Energy in Indonesia Through the Principle of Evidence-Based Implementation). Team Mahameru successfully advanced through the preliminary document review stage and into the final round. In the final, held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, the team competed against four other finalists, delivering a strong essay presentation and fielding questions from the judging panel with composure and clarity, earning them second place in the competition.
This achievement by Faculty of Law UGM becoming the implementation of the 4th point of SDGs on Quality Education.
With this result, Arfanita, Rachel, and Intan expressed their hope to continue entering other competitions and to further uphold the reputation of the UGM Faculty of Law.
