As a tangible demonstration of its commitment to creating an inclusive, comfortable, and equitable academic environment, the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) has released a documentary video titled “Disability-Friendly Faculty of Law.” This video showcases various physical facilities provided to support accessibility for the entire academic community, including people with disabilities, as part of efforts to achieve equality in higher education.
In the approximately three-minute video, the UGM Faculty of Law showcases various accessibility features, ranging from accessible parking spaces, ramps, tactile paving for the visually impaired, accessible restrooms, to elevators with Braille buttons. These facilities are designed so that every individual can move around, study, and carry out activities safely and comfortably on campus without physical barriers.
More than just showcasing the infrastructure, this video also features testimonials from students with disabilities who share their experiences while studying at the Faculty of Law. They explain that the support from the faculty—both in the form of physical facilities and the inclusive attitudes of the entire academic community—has created a learning environment that promotes equality and respects diversity. This serves as proof that the UGM Faculty of Law does not merely discuss justice and equality in legal theory but also applies these principles in the daily life of the campus community.
This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations. By providing disability-friendly facilities, the UGM Faculty of Law contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by ensuring inclusive and equitable access to education for all, as well as to SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by enhancing social and academic participation for people with disabilities. Furthermore, this initiative also supports SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by creating a campus environment that is safe, inclusive, and easily accessible to all members of the campus community.
