A total of 72 undergraduate students from the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), were officially graduated at Building I of FH UGM on Wednesday (18/5). Among them, 38 graduates received the cum laude distinction, 30 graduated with very satisfactory honors, and two received satisfactory honors. The graduates completed their studies in an average of four years and three months.

In the third graduation period of the 2015/2016 academic year, Elisabeth Regitta Widyaningrum was recognized as the graduate with the shortest study period, completing her degree in three years, seven months, and 18 days. Meanwhile, Dandi Septian was the youngest graduate at 20 years, eight months, and nine days old. The highest Grade Point Average (GPA), 3.99, was achieved by Tursina Fitriastuti and Gaza Carumna Iskadrenda.

Gaza Carumna Iskadrenda was also given the opportunity to deliver a speech on behalf of the graduates. In his address, Gaza highlighted the limited engagement of law students with social realities. According to him, law students tend to be detached from the social issues and realities they encounter in society. The transition from being a law student to becoming a law graduate, he emphasized, should be accompanied by greater sensitivity to social issues. “As law graduates of FH UGM, we should first seek to understand the complexities of the social realities behind the issues we intend to address,” he said. The graduate with the highest GPA also reminded his fellow graduates of their responsibilities after completing their studies. “Our responsibility after graduating from here is to apply our knowledge and make the greatest possible contribution to humanity,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sulastriyono, S.H., M.Si., Vice Dean for Research and Community Engagement, reminded the graduates to uphold their commitment to the values of Gadjah Mada. “You are free to pursue your careers, but remember your commitment to the Gadjah Mada values,” he said. He also encouraged the graduates to pursue careers in the legal profession and contribute as law enforcers. “So that FH UGM alumni can continue to make their mark across the legal profession,” he added.
