UGM’s Faculty of Law and SISU Explore International Cooperation in Legal Education

On Thursday (November 28, 2024), the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) hosted a delegation from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) to discuss potential collaboration in higher education. This visit marks a significant step toward expanding educational opportunities and strengthening global partnerships in the field of law.

The delegation from SISU was led by Professor Zhang Haibin, Dean of the School of Law, who was accompanied by Vice Dean Wang Weichen, Director Huang Yuemin, and Vice Dean Li Yan. The purpose of their visit was to initiate discussions regarding double degree programs and graduate studies at UGM, particularly at the master’s level.

The proposed double degree program is expected to attract students from both institutions, enabling them to acquire a diverse range of legal knowledge and skills. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting quality education and fostering global partnerships for sustainable development.

This collaboration is also seen as a way to improve the quality of legal education in Indonesia. Furthermore, the discussion also covered the potential for joint seminars and workshops that would benefit both students and faculty members. The exchange of ideas and best practices in legal education is expected to enrich the academic environment at UGM.

As the meeting concluded, both parties expressed optimism about the future of this collaboration. The establishment of dual-degree programs and graduate studies at UGM is expected to enhance the educational landscape in Indonesia and strengthen the relationship between the two institutions.

In conclusion, the visit by SISU to the UGM Faculty of Law marks an important milestone in international educational collaboration. With a focus on quality education and global partnerships, both institutions are poised to make a meaningful impact on the landscape of legal education in their respective countries.
