On Friday, August 9, 2024, the Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a welcoming event for the parents of new students enrolled in the International Undergraduate Program (IUP). The event took place in the auditorium of the Faculty of Law, creating an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation as families gathered to learn more about the academic journey their children are about to embark on.
The first session of the event featured a presentation and a question-and-answer segment involving the Dean, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, the Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources, the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Information Systems, and the Head of the Bachelor’s Program. This session aimed to provide parents with a comprehensive overview of the IUP curriculum, academic expectations, and the support systems available to students.
During the presentation, the Dean emphasized the importance of education in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Rininta Ayunina, S.H., LL.M., a Senior Associate at KarimSyah Law Firm, shared her experiences navigating the legal field after graduation. She emphasized the importance of practical experience and encouraged new students to take advantage of internships and networking events during their studies.
Ibrahim Hanif, S.H., LL.M., a lecturer in the International Law Department at UGM, also spoke during the session. He highlighted the significance of international law in today’s interconnected world and urged students to develop a global perspective in their legal education. His insights resonated with many parents, who appreciated the emphasis on preparing their children for international careers.
Lastly, Vierna Tasya Wensatama, S.H., LL.M., a Human Rights Officer at The ASEAN Secretariat, shared her journey and the impact of her education on her career in human rights advocacy. She inspired both students and parents by discussing the role of law in promoting social justice and human rights, aligning with the broader goals of the SDGs.
