Two UGM Faculty of LawProfessors Serve as Speakers at an Outreach Event on the New 2025 Criminal Procedure Code at the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency

Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, S.H., M.Hum., lecturers at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), served as speakers at the Outreach Event on the New Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) for 2025, held at the Awaloedin Djamin Auditorium, the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police. The event was themed “The Transformation of Substantive and Procedural Criminal Law through the New Criminal Code (KUHP) and the New Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP): Synchronization and Repositioning of the Role and Relationship of the National Police within the Criminal Justice System and Law Enforcement in Society.” The event was attended by officials from the National Police Headquarters, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya), and various police units, both in person and online.

The involvement of UGM Law School academics in this strategic forum reflects the university’s contribution to supporting national legal reform that is just, accountable, and aligned with the principles of sustainable development. Specifically, this is achieved through SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by strengthening law enforcement, as well as SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing the capacity and legal literacy of law enforcement officials to support sustainable legal development.
