FH UGM Lecturers Launch MOOC on "Sexual Violence Prevention" to Foster a Safe and Inclusive Campus

The Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM) has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and violence-free campus environment through the launch of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) titled "Pencegahan Kekerasan Seksual" (Sexual Violence Prevention).

The course is led by two FH UGM lecturers, Nabiyla Risfa Izzati, S.H., LL.M.(Adv) and Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M.(HR)., Ph.D. both of whom are well known for their active engagement in human rights and gender equality advocacy and scholarship. The MOOC is freely accessible at: https://mooc.ugm.ac.id/courses/kekerasan-seksual/

Through a comprehensive and carefully structured curriculum, participants will learn about the definitions, forms, impacts, and strategies for preventing and responding to sexual violence across a range of environments — from workplaces and educational institutions to public and digital spaces. The course also emphasizes the importance of institutional responsibility in building victim-centered systems and supporting policies grounded in justice.

Beyond providing legal and social understanding, the MOOC has a direct bearing on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) — particularly in relation to reproductive health and mental well-being, given that sexual violence frequently causes psychological trauma, emotional distress, and serious physical harm to survivors. SDG 4 (Quality Education) — by providing open, accessible learning that raises public awareness and understanding of a critical social issue. SDG 5 (Gender Equality) — through concrete efforts to eliminate all forms of gender-based violence. SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) — by promoting a fair, safe academic environment that upholds the dignity of every individual.

Through the Sexual Violence Prevention MOOC, FH UGM hopes that the broader academic community and public will become more aware, more willing to speak up, and more actively involved in building a culture free from sexual violence — in every space and sphere of life.
