UGM Law Faculty Lecturers Present Legal Research at the 2025 Law & Society Association Annual Meeting

The Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) continues to strengthen its identity as a World Class Research University (WCU). This commitment is demonstrated through the active participation of UGM academics in prestigious global academic forums. One of the highlights is the involvement of lecturers from the UGM Faculty of Law in the international conference, the 2025 Annual Meeting on Law & Society Association, held at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago, Illinois, from May 22 to 25, 2025.

The delegation from the UGM Faculty of Law consists of Dr. M. Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M., Umar Mubdi, S.H., M.A., and Virga Dwi Efendi, S.H., LL.M. All three are dedicated lecturers who actively engage in legal research and development through international conferences. Their participation underscores UGM's commitment to advancing legal education and research on a global scale.

The conference serves not only as a platform for presenting articles but also as an opportunity to identify legal frameworks and policies aimed at refining Indonesia's legal system. Participants gain exposure to various comparative legal approaches from other countries, which is crucial for benchmarking and enhancing local legal practices.

Moreover, the involvement in this conference aims to showcase the latest research findings and expand international collaboration networks. "This forum enriches our perspectives through insights from international legal scholars and practitioners, while also opening up opportunities for cross-border research collaboration," explained Umar Mubdi.

UGM's collaboration with the global academic community has been established for a long time through various conferences, exchange programs, and joint research initiatives. This activity reaffirms UGM's commitment to advancing legal research that is locally grounded yet globally impactful, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of quality education and global partnerships.

The conference also emphasizes the importance of education in fostering a deeper understanding of legal systems worldwide. By engaging with international peers, UGM lecturers can bring back valuable insights that can be integrated into their teaching and research methodologies, ultimately benefiting their students and the broader academic community.

In addition to presenting their research, the UGM delegation is keen on learning from the experiences of other countries, which can inform policy recommendations for Indonesia. This exchange of knowledge is vital for developing a robust legal framework that addresses contemporary challenges in society.

As UGM continues to participate in such international forums, it not only enhances its reputation as a leading research university but also contributes to the global discourse on law and society. The insights gained from these conferences will play a significant role in shaping the future of legal education and practice in Indonesia.

In conclusion, the participation of UGM's Faculty of Law in the 2025 Law & Society Association Annual Meeting exemplifies the university's dedication to quality education and global partnerships. By fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge, UGM is paving the way for a more informed and effective legal system in Indonesia.
