The Department of Criminal Law held an internal working retreat on Monday, August 5, 2024, focused on deepening understanding of the new National Penal Code (Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Pidana/KUHP Nasional) and harmonizing course materials in preparation for the 2024/2025 Odd Semester. The retreat was attended by all departmental lecturers, who actively participated in discussions and planning.
The main agenda included a discussion of lecture procedures and more innovative teaching methods to enhance the quality of education. A dedicated session on the National Penal Code was delivered by Prof. Dr. Marcus Priyo Gunarto, S.H., M.Hum., who outlined the differences in paradigm and the factors that distinguish criminal offenses under the new KUHP from those under the old Dutch colonial Wetboek van Strafrecht (WvS), among other matters.
The retreat supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) through its aim of improving the quality of legal education at UGM; SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), through the department's efforts to build an effective and accountable legal institution; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reflected in planned collaborative initiatives with various external partners.
