A delegation from the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) achieved a remarkable feat by winning first place in the 2025 Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia Cup National Constitutional Debate Competition. In addition, Novianti Kusuma (FH UGM ’23) was named Best Speaker among all competition participants.
The FH UGM delegation consisted of Anika Minerva Pramono (FH UGM ’23), Novianti Kusuma (FH UGM ’23), and Maytri Gestart Ignatius (FH UGM ’23). The team was mentored by the Speech and Law Debate Society (SPECIALITY) along with UGM Law School faculty members and alumni, who provided full support throughout the training and coaching process.
This legal debate competition was organized by the Student Association of the Islamic Family Law Program at UIN SATU Tulungagung, with the overarching theme “Balancing Constitutional Rights and Technological Advancements: Challenges and Opportunities in the Digital Age.” The competition featured 23 teams from various law schools across Indonesia. The competition series began with an online preliminary round on September 8, 2025. This was followed by the round of 16 through the semifinals, which were also held online, on October 4, 2025. Finally, the finals were held in person on October 25, 2025.
In the final round, the UGM Faculty of Law delegation faced off against UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya on the motion: “In Responding to Technological Developments, a Constitutional Amendment Is a Strategic Step to Strengthen the Protection of Citizens’ Digital Rights.” Through systematic, constitution-based arguments that were responsive to technological developments, the UGM Faculty of Law team successfully outperformed their opponent by earning the highest score and claiming first place.
In recognition of this achievement, the SPECIALITY delegation from the UGM Faculty of Law expressed their appreciation and gratitude to all parties who provided support throughout the competition—whether academic, technical, or moral. This success serves as tangible proof of the dedication, commitment, and collaborative spirit of UGM Law School students, faculty, and alumni in fostering an academic tradition of excellence and integrity.
