UGM Faculty of Law Delegation Wins Bronze Medal at IKAHI's 72nd Anniversary International Scientific Competition

A delegation from Universitas Gadjah Mada, led by Shinta Puspita Sari (2023), and comprising Kanaya Diar Pratista (2023) and Novianti Kusuma Dewi (2023), won a Bronze Medal in the General Category in the Scientific Paper Competition held to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the Indonesian Judges Association (IKAHI) in 2025. The theme of the competition was "Initiating an Integrated Assessment: Preventive Solutions in Legalization Efforts Related to Transsexual Regulation in Indonesia."

The competition aimed to formulate solutions and applicable solutions to current legal issues and hone participants' critical thinking skills in solving legal problems. The competition included administrative selection and assessment of scientific papers by a panel of judges, academics, and researchers from the National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN).

The competition attracted 305 teams from various categories: 98 from the Judges category, 71 from the Judicial Civil Servants category, and 136 from the General category, which included lecturers, students, researchers, advocates, and the general public. After a lengthy selection process, the winners were announced online on April 23, 2025. The scientific papers from the UGM Faculty of Law delegation will be published in the Judex Laguens Journal of the Supreme Court as a token of appreciation for their scientific contribution

As part of its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this scientific paper aligns with SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by addressing the issue of transsexual regulation and protecting the rights of vulnerable groups, as well as SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality) by promoting legal inclusion for often marginalized groups. Furthermore, the concept of integrated assessment reflects innovative efforts within the national legal system, supporting SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Resilient Institutions) by emphasizing the importance of preventive, participatory, and human rights-based justice.

The experience of being a UGM delegate in this international scientific competition is a valuable experience that is expected to have a positive impact, not only on the students' personal development but also as a tangible contribution to legal reform and inclusive and equitable development.
