The Master of Notarial Law Program, in collaboration with the Department of Civil Law at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada, successfully organized the Contract Drafting Competition as part of the 3rd Universitas Gadjah Mada Notary Law (UGMNL) Conference 2026. The competition was held in two prestigious categories: the Prof. Dr. Sudikno Mertokusumo, S.H. Trophy for undergraduate (S1) students at the UGM Faculty of Law, and the Prof. Dr. Sri Soedewi Masjchoen Sofwan, S.H. Trophy for Master of Notarial Law (MKn) students at the UGM Faculty of Law. The competition consisted of two main stages: a preliminary document review round and a final round.
Participation was capped at 20 registered delegations. The undergraduate category was entered by 20 teams, each comprising 6 students, while the postgraduate category drew 14 teams, each comprising 4 students. The competition timeline began with the release of the case facts (kasus posisi) by the organizing committee on April 16, 2026, with the submission deadline for completed contract or deed documents set for April 26, 2026. A rigorous evaluation process was carried out by the panel of judges from April 27 to May 2, 2026, to determine the 4 highest-scoring delegations from each category who would advance to the final round.
The final round was held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the UGM Faculty of Law. In this stage, participants presented their drafted contracts or deeds for 15 minutes, followed by a 25-minute Q&A session with the judges. The undergraduate category final took place in Room 3.1.2 in the morning, while the postgraduate category final was held in Room 3.1.3 in the afternoon. The full competition series concluded with the announcement of results and prize presentation on Friday, May 8, 2026, during the 3rd UGMNL main event.
The organization of the Contract Drafting Competition as part of the 3rd Universitas Gadjah Mada Notary Law (UGMNL) Conference 2026 reflects the commitment of the UGM Faculty of Law's Master of Notarial Law Program to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The competition contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening students' competencies in drafting contracts and legal deeds through professional, practice-based learning -- bridging the gap between theoretical understanding and the demands of the working world. The development of skills in drafting legal documents that are adaptive to technological advances and the dynamics of modern transactions also supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through the promotion of innovation in legal and notarial services. From a legal governance perspective, the competition is relevant to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) -- as it fosters the emergence of legal practitioners who are professional, possess integrity, and are capable of producing legal documents that deliver certainty and legal protection for society. The cross-level participation of students and the collaboration between the Master of Notarial Law Program and the Department of Civil Law at FH UGM also reflect the implementation of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the strengthening of academic synergy in the development of high-quality legal education.
