The Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) has once again demonstrated its role in promoting national legal reform through the participation of its faculty member, Dr. Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M., in a legal webinar titled “Examining the Substance and Process of Drafting the Revised Criminal Procedure Code (RKUHAP).” This webinar was organized by the GMNI chapter at the Faculty of Law, University of North Sumatra, on Saturday, August 6, 2025. During the event, Dr. Akbar emphasized the importance of revising the Draft Criminal Procedure Code (RKUHAP) as a means of ensuring a more just, modern, and human rights-oriented legal system.
The role of the UGM Faculty of Law, through Dr. Akbar in this discourse, serves as tangible evidence of higher education institutions’ contribution to guiding the national legislative process so that it aligns with social needs and the changing times.
This event, which involved students, practitioners, and civil society, served as a space for collective reflection on the fact that the revision of the Criminal Procedure Code is not merely a matter of formal regulation but also a crucial instrument for achieving social justice. Through the efforts of academics like Dr. Akbar, the UGM Faculty of Law continues to demonstrate its commitment to bridging theory and practice, as well as connecting public aspirations with the national legislative process.
Within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Faculty of Law at UGM’s contribution to overseeing the deliberations on the Draft Criminal Procedure Code aligns with Goal 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Efforts to promote a more inclusive, transparent, and just criminal justice system are part of universities’ responsibility to strengthen legal institutions and democracy. Thus, the role of the UGM Faculty of Law is not only important for academic development but also crucial for sustainable development in Indonesia.
