UGM Faculty of Law Delegation Claims Third Place in the 2020 MPR RI Academic Constitutional Drafting Competition

In mid-February 2020, the Constitutional Law Society (CLS) opened a recruitment process for a delegation to compete in the 2020 MPR RI Academic Constitutional Drafting Competition, themed "A Comprehensive Review of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia," organized by the Advisory Body of the People's Consultative Assembly (Badan Pengkajian MPR RI). After going through a selection process, Muhammad Fitra Kurniawan, Aditya Halimawan, Nabila Alyssa Kurnia, Nia Faridatul Khasanah, and Teguh Ihza Yuhirsah were selected as the UGM delegation. The drafting process began in March 2020, with the team conducting research over approximately six months through library studies and online literature review.

The team also conducted interviews with UGM Faculty of Law lecturers, including Faiz Rahman, S.H., LL.M. (the team's faculty supervisor), Dr. Zainal Arifin Mochtar, S.H., LL.M., Andy Omara, S.H., M.Pub.&Int.Law., Ph.D., Dian Agung Wicaksono, S.H., LL.M., Mohammad Ibrahim, S.H., LL.M., and Mahaarum Kusuma Pertiwi, S.H., M.A., M.Phil., all of whom provided invaluable assistance in drafting the Academic Paper and the Draft Amendment to the 1945 Constitution. The team also interviewed academics from outside FH UGM, including Prof. Dr. Ni'matul Huda, Prof. Drs. Ratno Lukito, M.A., DCL., Feri Amsari, S.H., M.H., LL.M., Luthfi Widagdo Eddyono, S.H., M.H., Bivitri Susanti, S.H., LL.M., Dr. Idul Rishan, S.H., LL.M., Allan Fatchan Gani Wardhana, S.H., M.H., Heroik Mutaqin Pratama, S.IP., Dr. R.B. Abdul Gaffar, S.IP., M.A., and Pan Mohamad Faiz, S.H., M.C.L., Ph.D., to strengthen the Academic Paper.

On October 14, 2020, the team was announced as having advanced to the final round, held from November 7 to 9, 2020, online, alongside 8 other universities including Universitas Islam Indonesia, Universitas Mulawarman, Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa, Universitas Jember, Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Diponegoro, and Universitas Indonesia. During the preparation for the final presentation, the team was supported by senior colleagues and various other parties who provided ongoing encouragement.

In the final presentation round, the team received appreciation and constructive feedback from the panel of judges, encouraging them to develop their interests and deepen their engagement with constitutional law. At the announcement, team number 4 was declared Third Place in the 2020 MPR RI Academic Constitutional Drafting Competition.
