The new student orientation is a routine annual event designed to welcome incoming students and provide a general introduction to the academic culture of the Master of Laws (MIH) and Master in Laws (LLM) programs. The orientation for the MIH and LLM Class of 2020 was held over two days -- Monday, September 14, and Tuesday, September 15, 2020. Given the new habits of adaptation necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 orientation was conducted entirely online.
On the first day, Dean of the UGM Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Sigit Riyanto, S.H., LL.M., opened the event with congratulatory remarks and words of encouragement for the new students. A second address was then delivered by Prof. Dr. Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, Head of the MIH Program. This was followed by a presentation on the Academic Regulations and an explanation of the Academic Calendar, evaluation procedures, and study period by Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M.(HR)., Ph.D. The day also included a session on Student Affairs Regulations and Student Services by Damari Pranowo, S.H. and Laras Susanti, S.H., LL.M.; an online learning systems session with Dr. Wahyu Yun Santoso, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M.; a guide to the Academic Information System led by Bernadus Purnawan, S.S. and Mizan; a Financial Policy briefing by Yuliana Setiyarini, S.Mn.; and the day closed with a sharing session between new students and the Graduate Law Students' Association (KMMIH).
The second day covered different material. In the first session, Arif Surachman, S.IP., M.BA., introduced the library services and online resources available at UGM. The second session was led by Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M.(HR)., Ph.D., who facilitated a practical session on searching online sources. This was followed by an explanation of online information search resources at FH UGM by Purwoko, SIP, MA. The final activity was a discussion session with Mr. Omar Mahmood, Product Specialist (Legal), on searching online sources via the Westlaw e-journal. The orientation concluded under the leadership of Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M.(HR)., Ph.D., Secretary of the MIH and LLM Programs.
The 2020 New Student Orientation for the MIH and LLM Programs at FH UGM was considered a considerable success, with high levels of student satisfaction reflected in the post-event survey. Based on this evaluation, future editions of the orientation are hoped to be even better and more innovative.
