FH UGM Delegation Claims Third Place at the Fasih Law Fair 2026 Legal Opinion Competition

Another proud achievement from UGM Faculty of Law students on the national legal competition stage. A delegation from the faculty has claimed Third Place in the Legal Opinion Competition at Fasih Law Fair 2026, organized by Universitas Islam Negeri Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. The competition is a prestigious national forum attracting law students from universities across Indonesia, designed to sharpen participants' legal analysis skills, juridical reasoning, and proficiency in drafting a legal opinion document that is systematic, well-argued, and solution-oriented in addressing a current legal problem.

The delegation comprised Fakhrul Haholongan Pulungan (23/520490/HK/23790) and Alfarizi Rona Putra Setiana (23/515988/HK/23613), under the supervision of Diantika Rindam Floranti, S.H., LL.M. In preparing for the competition, the team undertook an intensive process: deepening their understanding of the relevant law, analysing the given case facts, building an analytical framework, and refining the legal opinion document. The process demanded not only precision in reading the legal facts, but also accuracy in constructing arguments grounded in statutory provisions, legal doctrine, and relevant jurisprudence (yurisprudensi).

The Fasih Law Fair 2026 Legal Opinion Competition proceeded through a rigorous multi-stage selection process. In the initial stage, all participants were required to submit a written legal opinion document, which was then evaluated by the panel of judges against a set of indicators - including comprehension of the case, accuracy in the use of legal authority, analytical strength, structural coherence, and the quality of the recommendations put forward. The three highest-scoring teams from the pool of all participants were selected to advance to the final round. In the final stage, finalists presented their legal analyses before the panel of judges, followed by an in-depth Q&A session designed to test the consistency of their arguments, their capacity for critical thinking, and their responsiveness to evolving legal issues.

In the final round, the delegation performed at their best -- delivering their legal analysis in a systematic, well-argued, and communicative manner. The team articulated the legal issues with clarity, connecting the facts to the relevant legal norms and offering logical, practical solutions. Their ability to present ideas verbally and to answer the judges' questions with precision were key factors in securing their third-place finish. This achievement reflects the academic quality and intellectual capacity of the students in integrating legal theory and practice in a comprehensive way.

This result also has a direct bearing on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) -- in particular SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Through participation in an academically rigorous legal competition, students contribute to improving the quality of higher education with an orientation toward strengthening critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. The substance of the legal opinion competition - centered on resolving legal issues - is a concrete contribution to promoting a legal system that is just, accountable, and equitable, as mandated under SDG 16. The students' examination of legal accountability, human rights protection, and victim redress mechanisms in their case analysis also demonstrates the strategic role of the younger generation in supporting the strengthening of legal institutions and the rule of law in Indonesia.

This achievement is hoped to generate a positive impact both internally and externally. Internally, it is hoped to inspire greater academic motivation among students to continue striving for excellence and to actively participate in scholarly competitions. Externally, the result contributes to strengthening the institution's national reputation in the field of legal scholarship. Beyond this, participation in legal opinion competitions serves as a strategic vehicle for preparing students as future legal practitioners with sharp analytical capabilities, high academic integrity, and a keen awareness of legal issues in society.
