Dr. Muhammad Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M., a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM), served as the keynote speaker at the National Seminar on Public Administration, themed “Building a Generation of Integrity Through Anti-Corruption Education in the Era of Democracy.” The seminar was organized by the Public Administration Laboratory, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Tidar University. The event was attended by students and the general public with the aim of instilling the values of honesty, responsibility, and integrity in national and civic life.
In his presentation titled “Developing an Anti-Corruption Culture to Foster a Generation of Integrity,” Dr. Akbar highlighted the threat of corruption as one of the greatest obstacles to achieving sustainable development. He emphasized that the younger generation plays a strategic role as agents of change in combating corruption through education, setting a good example, and moral courage. According to him, integrity is not merely an individual value but also the cornerstone for establishing clean, transparent, and accountable governance.
The Faculty of Law at UGM’s participation in this event underscores the university’s commitment to mainstreaming character education and a legal system that promotes social justice. Dr. Akbar noted that combating corruption requires more than just law enforcement; it also necessitates fostering a culture of integrity from an early age. In this way, the younger generation can become a consistent driving force for change in building a society free from corruption.
This initiative also aligns with the global commitments of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). First, SDG 4 (Quality Education), through efforts to expand access to education on ethical values and integrity. Second, SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), by strengthening transparent, fair, and corruption-free governance. Third, SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), as collaboration between universities, the government, and civil society is key to strengthening the national anti-corruption system. Through Dr. Akbar’s active role, the Faculty of Law at UGM demonstrates its contribution to strengthening the nation’s moral foundation and realizing sustainable development with integrity.
