Master of Law Faculty of Law UGM Batch 2024 Held an Inaugural Lecture and Invited Speakers from Universitas Udayana and Universitas Padjajaran

Faculty of Law UGM held an inaugural lecture for Master of Law Program Batch 2024 on Friday (16/08/2024). This inaugural lecture presented 3 main speakers, those are lecturer from Faculty of Law Udayana University, Dr. I Dewa Gede Palguna, S.H., M.Hum.; Professor of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University, Prof. Susi Dwi Harijanti, SH., LL.M., Ph.D.; and Professor of the Faculty of Law, UGM, Prof. Dr. Nurhasan Ismail, S.H., M.Si.

The event that took place in Building B Auditorium Faculty of Law UGM brought the main theme entitled “The Relevancy of Rule of Law in Supporting Implementation of Democracy Values in Indonesia”. This event started at 08.00 WIB and ended at 16.00 WIB.

This inaugural lecture was opened with the opening remarks from Dean of Faculty of Law UGM, Dahliana Hasan, S.H., M.Tax., Ph.D., and continued with the other session including the Lecture on Gadjah Mada values by Dr. Arie Sujito, S.Sos., M.Si. 

The first speaker was Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Udayana University, Dr. I Dewa Gede Palguna, S.H., M.Hum. that brought the discussion about “Principles of Rule of Law and the Application in Indonesian Legal System in Supporting a Fair Democracy and Election”.

Meanwhile, Prof. Susi Dwi Harijanti, SH., LL.M., Ph.D., Professor of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University discussed about “Social Justice and Legal Protection in the Context of Rule of Law in Improving Public Participation in Election”. Lastly, Prof. Dr. Nurhasan Ismail, S.H., M.Si., Professor of the Faculty of Law UGM presented a material regarding “Legal Principles in the Perspective of Rule of Law Enforcement to Strengthen the Democracy and Public Participation in Election”. The moderator for this discussion itself was Dr. Mahaarum Kusuma Pertiwi, S.H., M.A., M.Phil that led the discussion.

This inaugural lecture itself is aligned with the SDGs goals, especially with the 16th goal on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. With the focus in Rule of Law, democracy, and fair election, this event emphasizes the importance of strong and accountable institutions in creating an inclusive and democratic people. Aside from that, discussion regarding the public participation in elections also supports the 10th goal on Reduced Inequalities with supporting equal participation in the democracy process.

This event also provided the explanation of the information technology, academic information system, and library, and other guides for freshmen from each study programs. Through this discussion, the Master of Law Program’s Inaugural Lecture Faculty of Law UGM 2024 is expected to contribute in shaping a critical and broadminded law enforcer.
