DIES NATALIS 78: International Seminar on “Achieving Sustainability through Green Economy Policies”

Faculty of Law UGM held an International Seminar on “Achieving Sustainability through Green Economy Policies” as one of the agenda of the 78th Dies Natalis Faculty of Law UGM Celebration on Thursday (15/02/2024). This event was held online and opened for public. This International Seminar was the implementation of the 11th point of Sustainable Development Goals on Sustainable Cities and Communities and the 13th point on Climate Action. 

One of the background of this seminar’s theme was the policy of Indonesia Government that stated their effort in handling the climate change. This was carried out through the emission reduction, as well as the agenda of FOLU Net Sink 2030 under the Presidential Regulations No. 98 Year 2021 and through the sustainable economic development like Indonesian Green Growth program under BAPPENAS.

This seminar was presented by 3 speakers that moderated by Dr. Wahyu Yun Santosa, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M. The first speaker was Dr. Adebola Adeyemi as the Fellow from Durham University, Center of Sustainable Development Law and Policy. The second speaker was Prof. Dr. Drs. Paripurna Sugarda, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M. as the Head of the Business Law Faculty of Law UGM. Lastly, the third speaker was Dr. Satoshi Ishihara as the Senior of Social Development Specialist, The World Bank.

In this International seminar, Prof. Dr. Drs. Paripurna Sugarda, S.H., LLM. explained about the Green Finance in Indonesia and Its Prospect. On his presentation, Prof Paripurna initially explained about the basic principles in sustainable finance sustainable finance, followed with the practice examples and the regulation situation in Indonesia, along with the development of the sustainable finance. sustainable finance dan keadaan regulasi di Indonesia serta perkembangan sustainable financeThis seminar also explained about the general challenges that face along with the possible problems with this “green economy” policy in legal context. Moreover, this seminar also provided a general description on the stakeholders, academics, and students, followed with what to understand in discussing the sustainable economic concept.
