Mental Health Workshop as the Form of Faculty of Law UGM Commitment in Realizing a Healthy Campus

The Faculty of Law UGM has committed to realize a healthy campus in their environment. This commitment was realized through the The workshop on on Mental Health Literacy and Psychological First-Aid that directed for lecturers, staff, and Safety Protector Guard as the parties that involve in the mental health support system in the Faculty of Law Campus. This workshop was held on Monday (12/02/2024) until Tuesday (13/02/2024) as the collaboration between Health Promoting University Faculty of Law UGM with Centre for Public Mental Health (CPMH) Faculty of Psychology UGM to build individual skill in overcoming psychological problems.

The first day of the workshop was opened by the warm greeting from the Dean of Faculty of Law UGM, Dahliana Hasan, S.H., M.Tax., Ph.D., who explained the importance of mental health issues in the campus environment nowadays. The agenda then continued with the presentation on basic mental health literacy that was presented by Nurul Kusuma Hidayati, M.Psi. In this explanation, she explained on the importance of the relationship between mental health, mental health issue, and mental problem in campus life along with the introduction to how to detect mental health issues early.

Moreover, Almonika Cindy Fatika Sari, S.H., M.A. as the Person in Charge of HPU FH UGM also filled the activity by conducting socialization of the mental health service system at the UGM Faculty of Law. The UGM Faculty of Law in improving mental health services for the community has been demonstrated through the recruitment of a Psychologist, the establishment of peer-counseling, and the preparation of a systematic mental health counseling service system. 

On the second day, the material for the workshop was about the Psychological First Aid (PFA) by the CPMH Faculty of Psychology UGM Team. There were 3 main principles, namely Look, Listen, and Link along with the empathic and supportive communication as the basis in applying the PFA. Muhammad Imam Bahri, M.Psi., as the psychologist for Faculty of Law UGM explained about the screening result and counselling service as the general description of the academic community. This explanation aimed to create a support system within the community.

This workshop was an realization of the commitment by Faculty of Law UGM in implementing the 3rd point ofSustainable Development Goals on Good Health and Well-Being. Hopefully, through this commitment, the academic community can be a part of the bigger community that have a knowledge and skill in overcoming a mental health issue to realize a healthy and prosper campus environment.
