The Moot Court Community of the Faculty of Law (FH) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Satria Paramartha, once again achieved a remarkable accomplishment after previously winning moot court competitions at the Faculty of Law of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) and the Faculty of Law of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) last year. On Sunday (10/4), the delegation won Second Place and received the Best Court Clerk award at the National Moot Court Competition on “Cyber and Telematics Crime” Frans Seda Cup 2016. The delegation, consisting of 18 participants and 2 official team members, was supervised by M. Fatahillah Akbar, S.H., LL.M., as the faculty advisor.

The competition, organized by the Atma Jaya Moot Court Guild (AMG) Student Organization and the Student Senate of the Faculty of Law of Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia for the 2015/2016 period, was held over seven days. The competition consisted of two stages, namely the preliminary round and the final round. The preliminary round was conducted in the form of presentations on 25–28 February 2016, while the final round took the form of courtroom proceedings held on 8–10 April 2016. The case presented in both stages concerned bank burglary and auction fraud cases that had become increasingly prevalent in recent years.

In addition to winning Second Place overall, the FH UGM delegation also obtained the highest score in the presentation stage. The presentation covered the case development prepared by the team, the investigation process, as well as court documents from the Public Prosecutor, Legal Counsel, and Judges. During this stage, participants were required to explain in detail the substance of the documents they had prepared. The delegation competed against four other university delegations at the presentation stage, namely delegations from Padjadjaran University, Trisakti University, Pelita Harapan University, and Krisnadwipayana University.

Emanuel Wisnu Satrio Wicaksono, Head of the FH UGM delegation, admitted that this was FH UGM’s first experience participating in the Frans Seda Cup. Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude that the team’s hard work over several months had paid off. He also stated that the competition provided a challenge for future law enforcement officers to address issues related to technological developments.

Wisnu advised future moot court competition delegations to be more diligent in conducting research. “What is clear is that research with practitioners and academics related to Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) must be carried out seriously, both juridically and technically,” he stated. In addition, the 2014 cohort student also encouraged members of the Frans Seda Cup 2016 delegation to assist future FH UGM delegations.

Alongside the Final Round of the National Moot Court Competition on “Cyber and Telematics Crime” Frans Seda Cup 2016, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia also organized a national seminar entitled “Safe Online Banking Transactions,” featuring three speakers: (1) Aries Fajar Kurnia from the Technology and Operations Directorate of Bank Mandiri; (2) Ir. Aidil Cendramata, M.M., Director of Information Security at the Directorate General of Informatics Applications (Aptika); and (3) Commissioner Nico Setiawan, S.I.K., M.M., Head of the Cyber Crime Sub-Directorate of the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police.
