Participation in the Jessup 2026 National Round marked a long and challenging journey for the UGM team. The competition demanded an exceptional level of commitment, from conducting in-depth analyses of complex international law problem cases and drafting memorials supported by comprehensive legal arguments based on primary and secondary legal sources, to undertaking rigorous pleading training designed to ensure precision, structure, and persuasiveness before panels of adjudicators.

For nearly a year, the team engaged in intensive training sessions almost every day after classes. Their preparation continued during a training camp in Jakarta throughout the semester break. The team also had the opportunity to refine its pleading skills through collaboration with several law firms in Jakarta, gaining valuable practical insights and professional perspectives as future international legal practitioners. These experiences fostered consistency, discipline, resilience, and strong teamwork throughout the competition process.

The fact that the Jessup 2026 National Round was hosted by Universitas Gadjah Mada made the achievement even more meaningful. Beyond competing, the team had the opportunity to welcome delegations from universities across Indonesia and showcase the academic atmosphere and competitive spirit of FH UGM. Competing on home ground provided additional motivation to deliver their best performance while upholding the reputation of their alma mater.

Winning the title of National Champion, along with the awards for outstanding memorials, marked the culmination of this remarkable journey. However, the achievement is only the beginning of a new challenge. The FH UGM team will continue its journey at the International Rounds in Washington, D.C., United States, in March 2026, proudly representing both Universitas Gadjah Mada and Indonesia on the global stage.

This accomplishment also reflects a meaningful contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participation and success in an international legal competition support SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening students’ research, legal analysis, and advocacy skills at the global level. Furthermore, the international legal issues debated in the Jessup Competition are closely connected to global governance, interstate dispute settlement, and the rule of law, aligning with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). By nurturing competent and ethical future legal professionals, FH UGM contributes to the advancement of fair and sustainable national and international legal systems.

This achievement once again reaffirms FH UGM’s commitment to producing a new generation of jurists who excel academically, demonstrate professional resilience, and are prepared to make meaningful contributions on the global stage.
