On Tuesday (June 27, 2025), the Faculty of Law at UGM, through its Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH), in collaboration with the DIY Provincial Attorney General’s Office, successfully held a “Suluh Praja” legal outreach event at the Sogan Village Office in Wates District, Kulon Progo Regency, DIY Province. This legal outreach program aimed to provide legal insights and knowledge to the attendees—village officials and the surrounding community—regarding common legal issues. This edition of “Suluh Praja” focused on the theme “Environmental Sustainability and the Formulation of Village Regulations” to provide legal insights on the importance of deepening understanding of environmental sustainability from the perspective of applicable law, as well as understanding the basis and procedures for formulating village regulations.
The event began at 9:30 a.m. with opening remarks by Mr. Indro Kurnianto, representing the Head of Sogan Village, followed by a group singing of the national anthem, “Indonesia Raya.” The event continued with a presentation by Mohammad Purnomo Satriyadi, S.H., along with a team from the DIY High Prosecutor’s Office, who presented material on the duties, responsibilities, and functions of the civil and public administration divisions within the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office.
Next, the legal education session was led by guest lecturers from the UGM Faculty of Law: Dr. Wahyu Yun Santoso, S.H., M.Hum., LL. M., who presented the topic “Environmental Sustainability” to provide the latest insights to village officials regarding procedures for maintaining environmental sustainability in accordance with Law No. 32 of 2009 on Environmental Protection and Management. Next, the presentation was delivered by Dr. Hendry Julian Noor, S.H., M.Kn., who addressed the topic “Formulation of Village Regulations” to provide insights into the fundamentals and procedures for formulating village regulations. All speakers, both from the DIY Provincial Attorney General’s Office and from the Faculty of Law at UGM, actively engaged in discussions during the question-and-answer session with the village officials. The majority of questions addressed issues related to rules, prohibitions, and sanctions for violations of environmental sustainability, as well as the implications of enacting village regulations for the respective villages.
The presentations by all the speakers were delivered in an interactive and engaging manner, facilitating a productive discussion. The faculty speakers also answered participants’ questions clearly and with practical solutions. It is hoped that this legal awareness session will support SDG Goal 3 in creating healthy and prosperous lives through environmental sustainability, SDG Goal 6 in ensuring access to clean water and proper sanitation, SDG Goal 7 in ensuring the availability of clean and affordable energy for the community, SDG Goal 13 by educating on key aspects of addressing climate change, and SDG Goal 16 to foster peace, justice, and resilient institutions starting at the village government level, as well as strengthening partnerships to achieve better outcomes in line with SDG Goal 17.
