Dual Degree Info Session: Strengthening Academic Collaboration Between UGM Master of Laws Program and the University of Glasgow

The Master of Laws (LLM) International Class Program of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), welcomed an official visit from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, on Tuesday, 11 November 2025. This visit marked an important step in strengthening academic cooperation between the two institutions through the Dual Degree Master of Laws Program. The event, titled Dual Degree Info Session, was held in Room III.1.1, Building A, Faculty of Law UGM, and was attended by students of the LLM Program, with Dr. Rangga Dachlan, D.Phil., serving as moderator.

The delegation from the University of Glasgow consisted of Professor Sara Carter (Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Social Sciences), Professor Clare McManus (Dean for Global Engagement for South-east Asia and Australasia), Dr. Xiang Li, Dr. Emiline Smith, Dr. Sophia Wong, and Neysa Nasywa from OIA.

During the visit, Professor Sara Carter and Professor Clare McManus delivered presentations on the profile of the University of Glasgow and the academic opportunities available for LLM UGM students. They highlighted the University of Glasgow as one of the oldest universities in the world—established in 1451—and consistently ranked among the top 100 global universities. They also emphasized that the Glasgow School of Law is ranked 1st in Scotland and 4th in the United Kingdom according to the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026, renowned for its excellence in international and multidisciplinary legal research.

Through the UGM–Glasgow Dual Degree partnership, students have the opportunity to complete their first year of study at UGM and their second year at the University of Glasgow, earning two Master of Laws degrees. This program provides access to leading areas of specialization such as Technology Law and Regulation, Human Rights Law, International Law and Security, and Climate Law and Justice. The visit further reinforced the commitment of MIH UGM to expanding international networks and preparing graduates to compete at the global level.

Beyond strengthening institutional collaboration, this activity contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the advancement of internationalized legal education; SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) through enhanced legal capacity across systems; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strategic academic and research cooperation between UGM and the University of Glasgow.

With the successful implementation of this visit, the Master of Laws International Class Program (LLM) of the Faculty of Law UGM reaffirms its role as a provider of globally oriented legal education, committed to international collaboration, academic innovation, and the development of globally minded graduates with strong integrity in advancing justice and legal sustainability.
