On Friday morning (12/2), the Faculty of Law of Universitas Gadjah Mada was filled with excitement. Unlike ordinary days, when only students and lecturers could be seen heading to their respective classes, the campus courtyard was crowded with lecturers, staff members, alumni, and members of Korpagama enthusiastically participating in a morning exercise session. The event marked the opening of the series of celebrations for the 70th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) of the Faculty of Law UGM, which would continue until the grand finale in the form of a Grand Reunion and Appreciation Night on Saturday (20/2).
Compared to the previous year, this year’s anniversary celebration was considered significantly larger in scale. “This year’s anniversary celebration is different from last year. It seems it will be much bigger,” stated M. Hawin, Dean of the Faculty of Law UGM. One indicator of this increased scale was the larger number of alumni expected to attend the main event.
At the Faculty’s 70th anniversary, Sigid Riyanto, representing Korpagama, expressed his hope that the Faculty of Law UGM would continue to thrive in the future. “Hopefully, the Faculty of Law will also help shape Indonesian law to become more humane and oriented toward the interests of the wider public,” he stated during his remarks. Also attending the event was the Vice Rector of UGM for Cooperation and Alumni Affairs, Paripurna. The opening ceremony of the anniversary celebration was symbolized by the release of balloons, followed by the group exercise session. Various attractive prizes and souvenirs were also prepared for lucky participants taking part in the event. (Lita)
