Seminar Nasional:
“Hukum dan Gagasan Kebangsaan Indonesia dalam Pusaran Politik Identitas”
As part of the 73rd Anniversary celebrations of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM), the faculty will hold a National Seminar entitled “Law and Indonesian National Ideas amid the Current of Identity Politics.” The seminar is grounded in the awareness that the law has struggled to respond to the contestation of interests and identities that has emerged in recent years, including in fulfilling the guarantee of justice for citizens. The involvement of law and law enforcement officials in identity-based political contests raises questions about the significance of law as a means of maintaining social order and as an instrument for pursuing justice. It is also important to reconsider how Indonesian national ideas should be articulated amid the growing intensity of identity politics and the increasingly unclear direction of the current legal system.
The seminar will be held on Monday, 18 February 2019, from 08.30 to 13.00 WIB at the University Club, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Bulaksumur, Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The speakers at the seminar are: Prof. Dr. M. Amin Abdullah, who will present “Ideas for Building Harmonious Pluralism in Indonesia.” Drs. Yudi Latif, M.A., Ph.D., who will discuss “Exploring the Values and Orientation of Law in Pancasila and the Indonesian National Narrative.” Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D., who will share her experience on “Identity Politics and the Construction of Law: Reflections from Field Research.” Dr. Rikardo Simarmata, S.H., who will discuss “The Relevance of Legal Thought and Theory in Understanding the Increasing Politicization of Primordial Identity.” The seminar will be moderated by Dr. Arvie Johan, S.H., M.Hum.
