Research Class 101 is a program run by the Law Development Division of ALSA UGM, designed to help law students deepen their academic writing and research skills. The initiative reflects two of ALSA's core pillars, Legally Skilled and Academically Committed, and contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education).
The event was held on Friday, April 26, 2024, via Zoom Cloud Meetings. Two speakers were invited for the occasion: Jerico Limans, S.H., Legal Associate at HHP Law Firm, and Almonika Cindy Fatika Sari, S.H., M.A., Lecturer at the Department of Customary Law at UGM Faculty of Law. The session was moderated by Khaira Aliya Maleeka, and drew a total of 73 participants.
The first speaker, Jerico Limans, S.H., walked participants through five essential stages of effective legal writing: pre-writing, research, structure, drafting, and review and finalization. The second speaker, Almonika Cindy Fatika Sari, S.H., M.A., focused on research methodology, sharing practical strategies for identifying the right keywords when searching for literature relevant to a given topic. Following the presentations, the two speakers conducted a live review of sample legal writings submitted by participants. The event closed with a token of appreciation presented to both speakers and the moderator, followed by a group photo.
Through the program, participants are expected to come away with a stronger command of legal writing and research skills that will support higher-quality publications and academic contributions to the field of law.
