The Justicia Student Council of the UGM Faculty of Law held a legal outreach event titled “Land Ownership Rights and Land Registration.” The event, which took place on Wednesday (August 30, 2023), was aimed at residents of Merdikorejo Village.
The training materials were carefully presented by student speakers, who discussed crucial aspects related to land rights. The Principle of Horizontal Separation—a key principle in land ownership—was explained in depth. Furthermore, the focus was on understanding Village Communal Land, a concept related to land use at the village level.
One of the main focuses of the outreach program was on Certificates of Land Ownership and the Comprehensive Systematic Land Registration (PTSL) program. Participants were given insight into the importance of holding a certificate of land ownership as a form of legal documentation that provides legal protection to landowners. In addition, the PTSL program was explained as a government initiative to systematically record and detail land information, thereby providing clarity and legal certainty to landowners.
The event began with an opening ceremony, followed by the presentation of informative material that was easy for the general public to understand. In keeping with the spirit of interactivity, a question-and-answer session provided participants with the opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding.
Not only that, but the event also engaged participants through an interactive quiz. Participants were encouraged to actively take part in the quiz, testing their understanding of land rights and land registration.
In addition to raising legal awareness among the public, this event aligns with the goals of sustainable development—specifically, quality education and partnerships—in accordance with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 and 17. Furthermore, this event is part of the 2023 Student Legal Outreach Grant program initiated by the UGM Faculty of Law.
Dema Justicia has been implementing the “Partner Village” program for three consecutive years. This program demonstrates the commitment and active involvement of UGM Faculty of Law students in making a positive contribution to the community, particularly in enhancing legal understanding regarding land.
It is hoped that through this activity, residents of Merdikorejo Village will gain a better understanding of land rights and the importance of land registration. This legal awareness is expected to enhance legal protection for landowners and make a positive contribution to the development of the local community.
