Friday (26/8), the Department of Islamic Law held another Legal Outreach session, this time on the theme "Elements of Islamic Inheritance and Related Legal Issues in Practice." As with previous sessions in the series, strong public enthusiasm was reflected in high turnout — over 90 participants joined via via Zoom or the FH UGM Kanal Pengetahuan YouTube channel. Most attendees were from the academic community, both from UGM and other universities, alongside numerous practitioners such as paralegals, advocates, and even civil servants.
This 8th installment featured Dr. Hartini, S.H., M.Si. (lecturer, Department of Islamic Law, FH UGM) and Dr. Ahmad Zuhdi, S.H., M.Hum. (Judge, Sleman Religious Court). Beyond explaining the elements of Islamic inheritance, the speakers also covered the concept of Kalalah — referring to a person who dies without any surviving parents or children — within Islamic inheritance law.
During the Q&A session, participants who had the opportunity to ask questions largely raised real-life inheritance issues they had personally encountered. The hope is that these Legal Outreach sessions from FH UGM's Department of Islamic Law will deepen public understanding of Islamic law issues as they play out in everyday life.
