Universitas Gadjah Mada's Master of Laws Program, Jakarta Campus, held a legal outreach event in the multipurpose room at the East Jakarta Administrative City Mayor's Office on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. The event went smoothly and in an orderly manner, with participants including the Chair of the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) and PKK members at the East Jakarta administrative city level, the Chair of the Karang Taruna youth organization, the Mayor of East Jakarta, and his staff.
The legal outreach session ran from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and was opened by the Mayor. UGM's Master of Laws Program, Jakarta Campus, brought in three law lecturers: Dr. Rikardo Simarmata, S.H. (Agrarian Law), Dr. Ninik Darmini, S.H., M.Hum. (Civil Law), and Dr. Dani Krisnawati, S.H., M.Hum. (Criminal Law). The session was moderated by Febri Moon Jaya, M.H., Subdivision Head for Legal and Human Rights Publications.
Residents raised a wide range of legal issues they had personally experienced or that came up as common concerns in daily community life. The largest share of complaints fell under agrarian law — for instance, residents asked about the legal status of land disputes involving the state and the community, disputes that had dragged on unresolved for decades. Residents also asked about the procedure for reporting land-related issues.
Beyond agrarian law, participants also raised questions and concerns related to contract and business law, particularly debt issues tied to online lending. Several complaints were also raised concerning criminal law matters, particularly domestic violence (KDRT).
