On Thursday (February 6, 2025), a group of students and teachers from Batik 1 High School in Surakarta visited the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta. This study visit aimed to promote and raise awareness of the undergraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Law, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to education and civil society partnerships. The event took place in Room V.1.1 of the Faculty of Law, creating an engaging atmosphere for the participants.
The group from SMA Batik 1 Surakarta was warmly welcomed by Andika Putra, S.H., M.H., LL.M., a lecturer from the Department of Environmental Law, and Diantika Rindam Floranti, S.H., LL.M., a lecturer from the Department of Criminal Law. Their presence underscored the importance of academic collaboration and the role of higher education institutions in fostering a culture of learning and civic engagement.
During the visit, Andika Putra emphasized the importance of education in shaping future leaders and provided students with information about the various undergraduate programs available at the Faculty of Law. He highlighted the Faculty’s commitment to providing a quality education that focuses not only on legal knowledge but also on the development of critical thinking and ethical reasoning among students.
Diantika Rindam Floranti added that partnerships between educational institutions and civil society are crucial for improving the quality of education. She encouraged students to actively participate in community service activities and legal awareness programs, which are an integral part of the Faculty’s mission to promote justice and social responsibility.
The interaction between students from SMA Batik 1 and UGM faculty members was lively and engaging. Students were encouraged to ask questions about the legal profession, the challenges faced by legal practitioners, and the impact of the law on society. This dialogue not only enriched the students’ understanding of the legal field but also inspired them to think critically about their roles as future citizens.
Overall, the visit by Batik 1 High School in Surakarta to the UGM Faculty of Law was a significant step toward bridging the gap in education and building partnerships between schools and higher education institutions. This visit highlighted the importance of promoting legal education and encouraging students to actively engage in their communities, in line with the SDGs’ vision for inclusive and equitable quality education.
