Thursday, (11/3/2025), Division of Law Development of ALSA LC UGM was back with the informal discussion forum namely DIALEKTIKA. In this session, the participants discussed on the trending issue between young generation, regarding the #KaburAjaDulu phenomenon, that reflecting the trend and tendency for young generation to seek for an opportunity to pursue their career or education in other countries.
This discussion was opened with the reflection from Maharani Fadia, that said that in reality, the education institutions in Indonesia most likely will positively respond to this phenomenon. According to her, looking for job opportunities through overseas education visa has been a long trend, even now supported with a new situation through the hashtag #KaburAjaDulu. Kezia Alicia also added that the limitation of quantity and quality of local Human Resources to support the young talents becoming one of the main reason for the students to pursue their study overseas, especially after graduating from High School. She said that the introspection towards the national education system is necessary in examining this trend.
Shafira Nurzalfa memperkuat argumen tersebut dengan menyampaikan bahwa fasilitas pendidikan di luar negeri seringkali menawarkan manfaat yang lebih besar dibandingkan di Indonesia. Ia menilai pemerintah perlu lebih serius dalam memperbaiki sektor pendidikan agar tetap mampu menarik minat generasi muda untuk bertahan dan berkontribusi di dalam negeri. Vincensius Jovan menyoroti adanya potensi penyalahgunaan program beasiswa luar negeri, seperti Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA), dalam program tersebut tidak semua peserta menggunakannya untuk kepentingan akademik. Ia menyebutkan bahwa keterbatasan pemantauan oleh kementerian menyebabkan banyak peserta yang memiliki privilege menggunakan kesempatan ini lebih untuk berlibur daripada belajar.
Maharani Fadia mengingatkan bahwa meskipun akar masalah seringkali ada di individu, kondisi negara yang belum mampu menyediakan fasilitas yang memadai turut berperan mendorong keinginan untuk “kabur”. Rizki Ayu kemudian mempertanyakan kembali tujuan awal dari program-program seperti IISMA, yang seharusnya memperluas kesempatan belajar, namun pada praktiknya masih banyak diakses oleh mereka yang berasal dari latar belakang ekonomi mapan. Diskusi ini juga menyinggung realitas bahwa bahkan beasiswa penuh sekalipun belum tentu mampu menutupi seluruh biaya hidup di luar negeri, seperti disampaikan oleh Ayu. Ia menilai bahwa sistem pendidikan dan perekonomian di Indonesia masih banyak menempatkan beban berat pada masyarakat, membuat banyak insan muda merasa dimiskinkan oleh negaranya sendiri.
Regarding the solution, the participants believed that the education and economy sector needs to be improved side by side. Adilah Atha emphasized that both sectors are affecting each other and needs to be prioritized. Rizki Ayu pushed the government to issue a policy that is oriented towards the public’s welfare. Vincencius Jovan chose to focus on the economy sector first, with the reasoning on the guarantee for the educators’ welfare. Kezia Alicia closed this discussion with stating that the foundation for a better future and development is by fulfilling the public’s welfare.
Through this discussion, it was expected that the participants would be more aware of the #KaburAjaDulu phenomenon were not born out of nowhere, but to be a reflection of the basic needs of human that have not yet fairly fulfilled in Indonesia.
