Legal Counseling Suluh Praja in Ngoro-oro Village: Understanding Customary Land and Customary Law Communities

Gunungkidul, September 10, 2024 – On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through its Legal Consultation and Aid Center (PKBH), in collaboration with the DIY High Prosecutor's Office, successfully held the "Suluh Praja" legal counseling program at the Ngoro-oro Village Hall, Patuk District, Kulon Progo Regency, DIY. This legal counseling program aimed to provide legal insights and knowledge to the participants, which included village officials and local residents, on common legal issues. This edition of Suluh Praja focused on the theme of “UnUnderstanding Customary Land and Customary Law Communities,”to provide legal insight regarding Understanding Customary Land and Customary Law Communities..

The event began at 09.30 AM with a collective singing of the national anthem, Indonesia Raya. The session continued with opening remarks by the Representatives Ngoro-oro Village, namely Mr. Sukasto. Following this, Mr. Anang Zaki Kurniawan, S.H. M.H. from the DIY High Prosecutor's Office provided an introduction and presented material on the duties, principles, and functions of the civil and state administrative division of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia. 

The presentation was delivered by speakers from the Faculty of Law UGM, namely Mr. Dr. Sulastriyono, S.H., M.Sc., a Lecturer of Customary Law at the Faculty of Law UGM, who discussed the theme of "Customary Land." His presentation provide insight into legal aspects and regulations regarding Customary Land. In addition, another speaker from the Faculty of Law UGM, Mr. Rangga A. Dachlan, S.H., LL.M., M.Phil., D.Phil, delivered a presentation on the "Customary Legal Community," to provide insight to the participants regarding Customary Communities.


The presentations from both speakers were delivered interactively and engagingly, resulting in a productive discussion. The lecturers also provided clear and solution-oriented responses to participants' questions.

The implementation of this legal counseling is expected to be an effort to strengthen an inclusive and peaceful society and realize point 1 of the SDGs to help eradicate poverty and point 16 of the SDGs to realize peace, justice, and strong institutions starting from the village government.
