The public lecture at the correctional facility was organized as part of the students’ learning experience. Through this activity, students were expected not only to gain theoretical knowledge but also to directly observe the realities and conditions in the field. Before entering the facility, students were required to leave their belongings and present the necessary identification or authorization, as is generally required of visitors. The students were then taken on a tour of the facility to familiarize themselves with its environment and conditions.
Kuliah umum yang diadakan di Lapas dilaksanakan sebagai bentuk dari fasilitas pembelajaran mahasiswa, dimana mahasiswa tidak hanya mendapat ilmu secara teoritis saja tetapi diharapakan dapat melihat langsung kondisi nyata dilapangan.
Sebelum masuk mahasiswa diharuskan menitipkan barang-barang yang dibawa serta menunjukan tanda agar diperbolehkan masuk ke dalam Lapas, seperti pengunjung pada umumnya. Kemudian mahasiswa dibawa untuk berkeliling lapas sebagai pengenalan lingkungan dan kondisi lapas.
The activity also included a sharing session between inmates and students. Seven inmates had been selected by the Wirogunan Correctional Facility to share their experiences. The participants were subsequently divided into several discussion groups to facilitate interaction between the students and inmates. During the session, the inmates shared various aspects of their daily lives and activities while serving their sentences.
One of the inmates, identified by the initial H, who was sentenced to three years and seven months in prison, shared his experience: “Because of financial difficulties while I was away from home, my older brother asked me to steal a motor vehicle.”
The entire series of activities between the students and inmates proceeded in an orderly and constructive manner. The Wirogunan Correctional Facility also provided excellent cooperation and support throughout the program. (MIH & LLM FH UGM)
