On Monday, October 18, the Master of Laws Program held another multidisciplinary guest lecture to enrich its Victimology course. The lecture featured Nurul Kurniati (Legal Counselor at Rifka Annisa Women's Crisis Center) and Hidayatun Rahayu (Legal Counselor at the Sleman Regency Integrated Service Unit for Women's and Children's Protection, UPTD PPA). Both speakers bring strong backgrounds in victimology.
Discussing Rifka Annisa WCC's advocacy and case-handling work, the session explained that Rifka Annisa WCC is an NGO providing both legal and psychological support. Its activities include participating in legislative drafting at both national and regional levels — such as the Draft Law on the Elimination of Sexual Violence (RUU PKS) and the Law on Domestic Violence (UU PKDRT) — and engaging in broader advocacy around violence against women and children. Rifka Annisa also conducts outreach in partnership with universities and schools on sexual violence, alongside audience engagement and direct case assistance. In her presentation, Hidayatun outlined key components needed to end violence, including: laws and/or regional regulations that the public genuinely understands; engaging community and religious leaders to help elevate the standing of women and children; family resilience campaigns; providing services for women and child victims of violence; building the capacity of service personnel; empowering women and boosting their productivity; and instilling self-protection awareness among women and children.
The session ran for 120 minutes, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, moderated by Devita Kartika Putri, S.H., LL.M. The event went smoothly, with lively discussion between participants and the speakers. It was livestreamed on the FH UGM Kanal Pengetahuan YouTube channel, with sign language interpretation provided.
