On Friday, May 31, 2024, the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) through the Legal Aid Consultation Center (PKBH) carried out a Legal Education activity at the Class IIB Sleman Penitentiary as part of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The implementation of this activity is also an effort by the Faculty of Law to achieve point 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by building an inclusive institutional correctional facility.
The Legal Education activity at LAPAS featured two lecturers as speakers: Dr. Dra. Dani Krisnawati, S.H., M.Hum. Head of PKBH FH UGM, and Rizky Septiana Widyaningtyas, S.H., M.Kn. Dr. Dani presented the material on "Responsibilities of Prisoners/Convicts to the Families They Leave Behind" to make prisoners aware of the importance of remaining responsible to the families they leave. Meanwhile, Rizky explained the topic "Business Licensing" to provide insight regarding the importance of business permits for prisoners who after being released will open a business or who currently have a business.
The presentation of materials by both speakers was delivered in an interactive and engaging manner, allowing for a successful discussion. The lecturers also provided clear and solution-oriented answers to participants' questions. The implementation of this legal education is expected to be an effort in strengthening an inclusive and peaceful society.
