The Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FH UGM) continued the PIONIR Justicia 2026 series with a guest lecture titled "BerPOROS Kritis: Dismantling the Status Quo Why Law Students Must Be Legally Literate" on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the FH UGM Auditorium. The event was attended by hundreds of new undergraduate students as part of the campus life orientation aimed at cultivating critical thinking from the very start of their studies.
The guest lecture was moderated by Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M.(HR)., Ph.D., a lecturer at the UGM Faculty of Law. Three resource persons were featured: Bhima Yudhistira Adhinegara, Director of the Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS); Dr. Nani Indrawati, S.H., M.Hum., Justice of the Civil Chamber at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia; and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mahfud MD, S.H., S.U., M.I.P., the second Chair of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia.
In his presentation, Bhima Yudhistira Adhinegara invited new students to view law through the lens of entrepreneurship. In the following session, Prof. Mohammad Mahfud MD called on new students to become legal minds who are not only intellectually capable, but who also possess strong moral grounding. He emphasized that a law graduate must grow into a legal scholar who upholds the values of honesty, justice, and integrity in every act of service to society, the nation, and the state.
Meanwhile, Dr. Nani Indrawati underscored the importance of the role of law students as agents of change. In her view, law students are not only expected to master legal theory and legislation they must also possess social sensitivity, integrity, and the courage to contribute to the realization of justice in society.
Through this guest lecture, new students are hoped to gain a broader perspective on the role of law across various aspects of life while understanding that being a law student means preparing oneself to become a critical, principled individual capable of making a genuine contribution to the realization of justice in Indonesia. Following the substantive presentations, the session continued with an interactive discussion between the resource persons and the new students. Participants showed great enthusiasm, raising a wide range of questions about the challenges of the legal profession, the role of students in responding to social issues and public policy, and the importance of maintaining integrity amid the dynamics of the legal world.
The guest lecture held as part of PIONIR Justicia 2026 is in line with the UGM Faculty of Law's commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the provision of inclusive and high-quality education; SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by instilling the values of justice, integrity, and the rule of law in students from the very beginning of their studies; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through the collaboration among universities, practitioners, and stakeholders in enriching students' learning experiences and perspectives.
In addition to the guest lecture, the second day of PIONIR Justicia 2026 was also enlivened by a Bazaar of Autonomous Bodies (Lembaga Otonom/LO), Semi-Autonomous Bodies (Lembaga Semi Otonom/LSO), and student communities at FH UGM. Through this activity, new students had the opportunity to get to know the various organizations and communities available as spaces to develop their interests, talents, leadership, and networks during their time at the UGM Faculty of Law.
The atmosphere was further brightened by a performance from Selebrasi Vox Justicia showcasing student creativity, before the second day's program was formally brought to a close. These various events formed part of FH UGM's effort to deliver an orientation experience that not only introduces academic life, but also strengthens a sense of community and encourages new students to participate actively in campus life.
