UGM’s Faculty of Law Promotes MHBK’s International Accreditation as a Step Toward Sustainable and Global Legal Education

On Tuesday (August 19, 2025), the Master’s Program in Business and Public Law (MHBK) at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University, held a workshop titled “Preparing for International Accreditation: Optimizing the OBE-Based Course Portfolio and Performance Evidence” in Room B.5.5 of Building B at the UGM Faculty of Law. The workshop, which took place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. WIB, was attended by faculty members of the MHBK program as part of the preparations for ACQUIN (Accreditation, Certification, and Quality Assurance Institute) international accreditation.

This event is essentially a strategic step by the MHBK Program to support the mission of the UGM Faculty of Law to achieve international excellence. ACQUIN international accreditation was chosen because it is an institution registered with the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) and has been recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology through Ministerial Decree No. 83/P/2020.

This workshop featured expert speakers from various units at UGM. Dr. Mahaarum Kusuma Pratiwi, S.H., M.A., M.Phil., Chair of the Quality Assurance and Academic Innovation Unit (JAMIA) at the UGM Faculty of Law, provided an introduction to ACQUIN international accreditation. Meanwhile, Dr. Ngadisih, STP, M.Sc., Head of the Center for Innovation and Academic Studies (PIKA) at UGM, delivered the main presentation on optimizing the course portfolio based on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and performance evidence. The workshop was further enriched by a presentation from Dr. Widya Wasityastuti, M.Sc., M.Med.Ed., Ph.D., Coordinator of International Quality Assurance at the University Quality Assurance and Reputation Unit (SPMRU) at UGM, who discussed the urgency of international accreditation for graduate programs. In addition to the presentation of materials, the workshop also featured a hands-on session on developing OBE-based course portfolios.

This interactive workshop not only provided practical guidance on strategies for creating effective portfolios and best practices for documenting evidence of learning outcomes, but also discussed the integration of technology in the creation of digital portfolios to ensure they are ready for audit by international accreditation bodies. These efforts to obtain international accreditation are also aligned with the achievement of Key Performance Indicator (KPI) 8 of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology regarding the attainment of international accreditation.

This initiative supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), by raising legal education standards based on global learning outcomes and international quality assurance systems. Additionally, this initiative contributes to SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by promoting the use of digital technology in academic governance and learning portfolios. Furthermore, cross-unit collaboration within UGM reflects the implementation of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), which emphasizes the importance of synergy among educational institutions in building a higher education system that is inclusive, innovative, and internationally competitive.

With international accreditation, the MHBK Study Program is expected to be on par with similar programs globally and to expand its international recognition in the fields of business and public law, while also contributing to the development of a generation of legal experts capable of strengthening good governance and a just legal system in Indonesia.
