The Faculty of Law at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through the Center for Natural Resources Governance Studies (NRGS), in collaboration with PT Pertamina (Persero) through Pertamina Corporate University, has completed the eighth week of the Pertamina Mini Master of Law Program 2025. The learning sessions were held on Saturday and Sunday, August 2–3, 2025, at the UGM Master of Law Campus in Jakarta.
During this eighth week, more than 60 participants from managerial to executive levels of PT Pertamina (Persero) engaged in in-depth discussions on legal topics closely related to business practices and global developments. The focus was on competition law, transnational business law, alternative dispute resolution, and bankruptcy and suspension of debt payment obligations. The sessions were delivered in parallel classes and aimed to strengthen strategic understanding of the increasingly complex landscape of business law at both national and international levels.
On the first day, the program began at 9:00 AM WIB with a session on Comparative Competition Law, focusing on business competition activities prohibited under Law No. 5 of 1999 and comparisons with practices in other jurisdictions. This session was delivered by A.M Alfridjianta, a legal practitioner who is licensed to practice in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It was followed by a session on Transnational Business Law, in which participants explored regulations on anti-dumping, subsidies, and safeguards, along with case studies related to international trade policies. This session was led by Bagus Suksmo Djati Nur Buwono, S.H., LL.M., Managing Partner at Bagus Enrico & Partners.
On the second day, the focus shifted to two main topics. The first was Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution, including arbitration cases in the energy and oil and gas sectors in Indonesia and abroad. This session was led by Jou Samuel Hutajulu, S.H., M.H., Chairman of the Energy Dispute Arbitration Board. The second was an in-depth discussion on Bankruptcy Law and Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations, covering entities that may be subject to bankruptcy and the concept of uitvoerbaar bij voorraad (immediate enforceability), delivered by Jamaslin James Purba, S.H., M.H., Managing Partner at James Purba & Partners. The Sunday session concluded with Post-Test 3 to evaluate participants’ understanding after the full series of lectures.
This program is designed to be interactive, ensuring that participants not only understand the technical aspects of legal theory and practice but also gain the ability to apply principles of good corporate governance in decision-making processes within state-owned enterprises and the energy sector.
The Pertamina Mini Master of Law Program 2025 is a concrete contribution by the Faculty of Law UGM and PT Pertamina (Persero) in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). This strategic collaboration enhances corporate legal capacities that are adaptive, accountable, and sustainable in the face of an increasingly dynamic global legal landscape.
